Student Assessment/Reflection

Teacher Assessment/Reflection

(Ann) I would vote for assigning just one letter to the exploratory and asking the students to provide evidence of their learning. Maybe something like this instead. (Attached.)

Teachers might feel they'd like to have more than one letter option for their section, so they could have multiple copies to provide students an opportunity to choose the one that best fit their experience.

If this is an electronic template, kids will provide more feedback when allowed to type rather than write.

(Theron) I also like the idea of having the kids focus on a single letter in addition to building an electronic reflection portfolio of some type over time. It was previously suggested that the kids could add their reflection to that portfolio each quarter so that they had a 12 page reflection at the end of their 8th grade year. Perhaps the 6 different lettered reflection templates could be housed on a server and the kids could download the appropriate one each quarter to be added to their previous reflections.

(Danny) I like the template idea and dressing it up to make it more fun. I think one letter is the winner so far, but I'd like to take it to teachers to make sure they like giving the kids the choice. We could pilot something this fourth quarter to see what the kids come up with. Give one type of reflection to Red, another to Gold, and compare the work that comes out of it. I'm wary of the server idea because that creates a new management job. Since Mary Browning had a drop box until very recently (maybe still does), I'm hesitant to move in that direction. I don't think navigating the server is a way forward, we should look for something online in the cloud. Maybe that's through digital portfolios or some social networking system like Elgg (which we have). Here's a glance at what other schools in Asia are doing: (Link to discussion on Digital Portfolios )
